A lot of us have made the decision that it is preferable to be available to watch our children grow and to live a more satisfying, balanced life.   In an uncertain economy, we can no longer rely on the job security that our parents had and a lot of us have simply grown tired of the never-ending rat race. Life is short. Why not enjoy it? Why not be there for our children when they are young; what really could be more important?   

  We now see many organizations that allow their employees to telecommute. We also see a lot more people working as independent contractors. And small businesses are on the rise.

  And small businesses need independent contractors. Employees are expensive. Often, small businesses cannot afford to hire and maintain a full-time staff. Not only that, but while a business may have multi-faceted needs, it may only have those needs on an occasional, or part-time basis. It often makes no sense to hire employees to meet all of the specific needs a business may have.

  By hiring outside vendors, small businesses can have access to professionals with the specific skills and experience they need; people that might not otherwise be available to a small or home-based business.

  The bottom line is this: Small businesses benefit from independent contractors. And independent contractors rely on the business they get from those small businesses. Small business needs small business to succeed.
